Availability and Areas Covered:

Online and face to face tuition offered.

Mondays to Thursdays 8:00am to 3:30pm.

Mondays to Thursdays after 3:30pm limited availability which may vary based on other family commitments

Rates:

Rates for A level Chemistry tuition: -

£50.00 per hour - lessons 9.00 am - 3.30 pm (during the school day)

£60.00 per hour – all lessons after 3.30 pm

£35.00 per hour – paired A level tuition (2 per group)

£25.00 per hour – small group A level tuition (min 3 students per group)

Rates for GCSE Chemistry / Science tuition: -

£45.00 per hour                      

Payments can be made by cash or online bank transfer

Payment should be made on the day of each lesson OR monthly payment by invoice can be arranged

Travel expenses of £5.00 per lesson are added for travel

Bio:

Specialising in A Level Chemistry tuition I tutor primarily online via Microsoft Teams but can tutor face to face for local students. I really enjoy working with students on a one-to-one basis and being able to support them with individual areas of focus. The bespoke support improves students’ confidence greatly and serves as a solid foundation to support further academic success.  I am also more than happy to provide support through small group workshops which will allow students to discuss and work collaboratively with others. 

Sharing my love of Science with students is very important to me.  Therefore, I am deeply committed to reflecting on my practice, so that I can provide the best support for my students allowing them to achieve to their maximum potential.   Over the past few years I have been an A Level Chemistry examiner for AQA and the knowledge that I have gained from this is further helping me to support students to refine their exam technique to ensure they gain as many marks as possible, particularly when answering challenging questions that involve applying learning to unfamiliar situations.  My aim is to ensure my students become lifelong learners, equipped with the skills and attributes they need to be successful in their future pathways and careers.

Prior to tutoring, I was a Science teacher teaching in schools in Birmingham, Bristol and Harrogate, holding several leadership roles (including Head of Science and Lead Science Practitioner) for over 20 years. This has helped me to develop a range of strategies to spark real passion for Science in my students and help them understand challenging concepts.

I am a GCSE student, just finished triple higher chemistry GCSE, with Kalpna being my tutor for just under a year. Throughout year 11, I managed to achieve a leap from a grade 6 in my first year 11 mock to a grade 9 in my final exam. So evidently, I found her method of tutoring very effective. First of all, I think using exam questions in order to improve my exam technique, as well as identify and consolidate any gaps in my  knowledge was extremely helpful. I was also continually asked if I understood content after we had gone through a section, in order to make sure I felt comfortable with the new information, this made me feel very encouraged to ask questions throughout my tutoring. I also really appreciated all the recources provided, for example documents setting out all the information needed to certain topics and practice exam papers, which were delivered to our house and then promptly marked. This was great for me to target areas that I was struggling with and get instant feedback on what I could improve on. So in conclusion, I found my tutoring extremely effective and would definitely recommend Kalpna to others, who are struggling to meet the grades they want.

Kalpna worked with my son, who had unfortunately missed 6 months of schooling due to medical reasons. She set out a plan by working with the school to target the missed topics. She was extremely thorough with the each lesson.  We have found Kalpna to be a highly effective tutor for both our sons. Kalpna relates exceptionally well and differentiated the support to both of them in a truly wonderful way.
