Bio:

I am a native French speaker and a qualified language teacher, with a wide and varied experience of teaching French and Spanish in schools. As a tutor, I started tutoring shortly after we relocated to Staveley when my children were younger and realized that teaching outside the classroom made a big difference to my student's perception of the language, their confidence and achievements.
I value the one-to-one approach which helps me tailor my lessons to the needs and interests of each student. My students appreciate my friendly approach to teaching and learning, my knowledge of the exams and courses and also my attention to detail as I spend a lot of time devising worksheets to help them learn. I practise vocabulary and structures with oral work based around visuals or other materials that I have devised, with a view to helping students practise specific topics, grammar or areas of vocabulary.

In the summer term, I mark A-level examination papers and examine A-level students in schools, which helps me guide my students. It also helps them understand how they can achieve their optimum level or grade. This expertise has helped me consolidate and raise the levels/grades of my students and give them a sense of confidence as well as allow them to go on to their chosen courses.
I teach all ages and needs: GCSE/IGCSE/A levels/undergraduates/adult learners/Common entrance examinations.
During lessons, I focus on speaking activities whilst teaching, revising or expanding grammar and building up vocabulary, thereby covering all the skills. I create material for each student to help them manipulate the language in a playful or realistic way through games whenever possible. If lessons are fun, learning becomes almost effortless and productive.
Tutoring is immensely rewarding as it allows me to build up or restore my students’ confidence in using the language they are learning at school.  Students can see their language skills grow along with their enjoyment of it. It also allows me to help them secure or improve their predicted grades.

Testimonials:

Our heartfelt thanks! Nina has achieved an A* at her French A level and was way above the grade boundaries. Thank you so much for supporting her and helping her achieve this fantastic grade.

S. Briggs, Ripon

I just wanted to let you know that Edward has achieved a level 8 in his French. We are so proud of him and cannot thank you enough for all the help you have given him this year and which contributed to his predicted grade jumping up 2 grades. He will be doing Politics, History and English Lit and hopefully, keep up with his French! Thank you again, Murielle.

D. Routh, Knaresborough

Thank you Murielle for your fantastic support in the run-up to my French A level. I enjoyed our lively debates in French and there is no doubt that you have been instrumental in me achieving higher than my predicted grade in the final exams. Thank you so much again

Elle Wilkinson, Harrogate

Just another quick note to say a huge thank you Murielle for your continued support of Beki. It has not gone unnoticed the amount of work and effort you have put into improving her French. She has been coming back singing your praises repeatedly and she normally reserves that kind of enthusiasm only for her peer group! There are some teachers who can really truly make a difference and we are just grateful that at least we managed to find you for her upper sixth form (and wish we had known you in the lower sixth!) We really can’t recommend you highly enough.

Beki's parents, Knaresborough

Thank you so much Murielle for the year of tutoring. You unlocked my potential as a linguist, unlocking my confidence in it too, making me love French and realize that I want to learn foreign languages. You are the reason I am doing French at uni, alongside English and so, in that sense, you have really changed my life. Thank you.

Georgie Wardall, RGS

I just wanted to share with you Charles’ end-of-year assessment for French. He was so proud to tell me when he got in the car tonight. He got 100% for his translation. I just wanted to say thank you so much again and how we are so lucky to have you teach Charles. He always enjoys your lessons and you are a wonderful, inspiring tutor. I know how hard you work and the effort that goes into everything you prepare, so sometimes, it is nice to hear how much you are appreciated. Merci Murielle

Jayne Herrington, QE

Just to let you know that Seb was really pleased to get an A for his French A level and so, I wanted to say a big thank you Murielle for all your help. It made such a difference during the disruptive year. He will be going to Exeter to study law. Thank you again – we really appreciate all you did.

Nicola Evans

Just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for helping Ed up to the GCSEs. He was really delighted to get a 7 in his Spanish exams -  2 grades higher than his predicted grade so better than we could have hoped!

P. Roebuck, Farnham
