I am a passionate teacher of Sciences, having worked in industry for 22 years in a scientific capacity, working in biotech, pharmaceutical and new technology start-up industries in UK and Denmark before embarking on a career change into teaching.
I have experience in teaching pupils of all abilities, ensuring that my lessons are tailored to the tutee and ensuring there is the right level of challenge so that progress is earned, evident and rewarding. I offer pupils homework assignments which can be returned to me by post or email for marking prior to the next lesson, to enable tutees to practice topics covered, through independent work, to reinforce learning.
I have worked extensively with non-British, English as an additional language (EAL), pupils who are refugees or EU nationals. My own experience of having moved to the UK as an EAL student at school age gives me some empathy and understanding of these pupils’ needs.
Pupils have expressed that I am able to explain topics clearly, sometimes humorously, ensuring that they achieve good marks in any school assessments that I have taught. I am also described as approachable and a good listener who seeks to understand their current level of knowledge and have an ability to set challenge and stretch their understanding to a higher level.
I aim to promote independent thought and reasoning and enable them, through questioning with analogies and real-world examples, to reason with, understand and recall the key points of their syllabus and to foster a love of Science.
I would like to say a huge thank you. Her confidence is growing and I know she feels comfortable with having someone who is able to explain the syllabus in terms she understands in an arena where she is comfortable to ask.
Thank you again
